SA2019

SA2019Is an azimuthally anisotropic S-wave tomographic model of the South Atlantic Ocean and the Surrounding continents of Africa and South America. It is an expansion of AF2019 and in Africa it is identical to it. It is computed using waveform tomography from a database of over 1.2 million vertical-component waveform fits. It samples the crust, upper mantle and mantle transition zone, with a lateral gridding of 300 km. The model samples the full transition zone and has good resolution down to the deepest layers (585-660 km depth) in South America. In the oceans and in Africa however, the lowermost transition zone is underdamped and in there, the model should be used with caution.

Images of the model can be viewed and downloaded from the widget to the left.

In the model distribution linked below, you will find:

- The model file containing the full model;

- A readme file explaining the format details and how to view it;

- A fortran program to interpolate the model at any depth;

- The gmt colour palette used to plot the model in our publications;
