AF2019

AF2019Is an azimuthally anisotropic S-wave tomographic model of Africa computed using waveform tomography. It is computed from a database of over 1.2 million vertical-component waveform fits. It samples the crust, upper mantle and mantle transition zone, with a lateral grid spacing of 300 km. While it samples the full transition zone, the model is underdamped in the lower transition zone (585-660 km depth), and there it should be used with care.

Images of the model can be viewed and downloaded from the widget to the left.

In the model distribution linked below, you will find:

- The model file containing the full model in Africa;

- A readme file explaining the format details and how to view it;

- A fortran program to interpolate the model at any depth;

- The gmt colour palette used to plot the model in our publications;
